It’s weird to say the word “enjoy,” in this context so I won’t but it’s taught me that this is an interest of mine that’s not going away I’ve dove into this case on a level I haven’t for any other. It’s taught me how much I love true crime mysteries. It’s just an armchair detective’s dream case. The case is also one that, once you absorb all the evidence and realize a RDI, you also realize it could have logically been any of them, even if you’ve developed an opinion.

Not to mention JB is what they call, “the most dead.” They say, as far as the media/public go, that black women are the “least dead.” JB being the most. A cookie cutter super rich family, their involvement in pageants, JR’s company’s connections with Lockheed and Martin, the crazy RN, PR’s theatrics, sneaky Burke laying low in the wings, odd clues like the spider webs/pineapple/too big undies/soiled clothing, there was chronic sexual abuse inflicted on this poor little girl, the odd staging of the scene. The aesthetics of the case are what’s kept it going. I remember the case, I wasn’t much older than JB and was a cutesy little white girl. It’s gutturally tragic and that little girl got absolutely no justice, it makes you want to develop an opinion. So I think my natural reaction is to want to fight on her behalf in some small way.įor a more objective answer, it really allowed me to hone in on what type of true crime and mysteries I want to delve further into. Someone determined to get answers and to vindicate their loved one. Normally victims, especially children have a strong advocate in their family. I think people felt like JB had no one in her corner and that that’s another reason people have grown so invested in it. The fact that no one has been brought to justice and that no one has been held accountable and that her family potentially prevented that from happening makes it that much worse. It’s a reminder that awful things happen to the completely innocent and that things aren’t always as they appear. But then over the years, learning more and more, and deciding that what happened to her very likely originated from that place that should have been her safe haven, got to me. The crime itself on its own was traumatic.

This little girl had every resource available to her, and still ended up dead.

She should have been dreaming of new presents with a tummy full of Christmas cookies, not dragged to the basement to die an awful scary death. I can’t remember when it stuck with me, but something about this wealthy family, outwardly perfect, and this little girl dying in such a brutal way on Christmas night just really disturbed me.
